ANNOUNCEMENT OF POSITION VACANCY

 

Director of Developmental Programs

Western Colorado Community College - Bishop Campus

 

RESPONSIBILITIES: Reports to the Vice President of Community College Affairs. Responsible for directing all aspects of the Developmental Education Program at WCCC, including hiring, training and evaluating staff, curriculum development, scheduling classes and staff, directing activities in the Student Learning Center, teaching developmental classes, administrating testing and assessments, and working with Mesa State College faculty and staff to assure that the student outcomes meet the expectations of the general education curriculum. Additional duties and responsibilities include:

 

  • Coordinate, with faculty, the development and implementation of short- and long-range departmental programs, plans, goals and priorities, including establishing achievement standards for each curriculum level
  • Provide the leadership necessary to carry out the mission of the Developmental Program within the college and its regional service area
  • Promote good teaching practices
  • Recruit and recommend qualified faculty for employment
  • Effectively allocate personnel to meet departmental and institutional responsibilities, including establishing teaching schedules and committee assignments
  • Objectively monitor and evaluate the job performance of faculty and staff
  • Conduct performance review of faculty and participate in faculty promotion and retention
  • Address and mediate conflict among faculty members
  • Fairly administer the distribution of available faculty development resources
  • Travel to multiple sites where Developmental Program services will be provided.

 

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE: Requires a Bachelor's degree in a related field of study, curriculum development experience, and an understanding of the value developmental programs provide to individual students and higher education systems. Preference will be given to applicants with a Master's degree in a related field of study, at least five years of teaching experience in developmental/remedial education at the college level, experience in managing personnel, and experience managing a student learning center in a community college setting.

 

TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: Full time, administrative appointment.
