Dear CoADE Members,

The purpose of CoADE is to assume a leadership role in Developmental Education to:

  • Provide information relative to theory, practice, and innovation in developmental education.
  • Provide quality professional development through seminars, workshops, conferences, and publications.
  • Provide support to the membership through networking to further professional growth and to promote efforts toward enhancement of developmental education.

To see these things in action, come to the annual CoADE Conference at Pueblo Community College on October 15-16, 2004. Your CoADE Executive Board and Conference Committee have been diligently working in preparation for the conference. Carol Montoya, our vice-president has been heading up this project and it looks to be one of the best conferences that we have had. Join your colleagues and friends in Pueblo and connect and/or reconnect with developmental education professionals throughout the state.

One of my favorite mottos is the NADE motto which reads:

Helping underprepared students prepare,

prepared students advance,

advanced students excel.

As professionals in developmental education and basic skills, we are in the midst of enhancing academic, personal, and professional achievement for all learners. We are always in the forefront of seeking to improve the theory and practice of developmental education at all levels. We do this to not just improve ourselves professionally, but to improve the well-being of our students. A developmental educator is a special person and I commend all of you who day in and day out are making lives easier for that one student.

See you in Pueblo. We were once up and coming and now we have arrived!

Art Terrazas, President
